KOTA KINABALU: A 25-year-old computer shopkeeper was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane for being in possession of a 23cm long knife.
Mohd Azzut Firdaus Mohd Jaffar pleaded guilty before magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Junior to the offence which he committed on September 15 in front of a shop at Cyber City, Tanjung Aru.
His offence, under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Weapons Act 1958, provides for a maximum two years’ prison term and whipping.
During mitigation, the unrepresented accused asked the court for a lighter sentence.
Meanwhile, he pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing hurt to a person in front of the Boot Room at Cyber Square, Jalan Cyber City on September 10.
He allegedly attacked 23-year-old Ahmad Inin with a parang (machete).
The offence, framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, provides for a maximum three years’ imprisonment, a fine and whipping if found guilty,
The court set October 30 for re-mention pending the medical report of the victim.
