KOTA KINABALU: A young woman was yesterday taken by two men on a terror ride in her Perodua Myvi car before she jumped out of the moving vehicle at Alam Mesra, Jalan Sulaman in a second carjacking incident in two days in the state capital.
The incident happened at Plaza Juta, Likas when the 23-year-old clerk had just parked her car at the commercial centre and was getting off the vehicle about 5.30am.
As she was alighting, two unidentified men pushed her to the back seat and drove off with her in the car towards Alam Mesra.
While putting up a struggle, the woman escaped by jumping out of the moving vehicle, and immediately sought help from the public before lodging a police report at the Alam Mesra police booth.
The victim was reported to have only sustained minor injuries but lost her RM60,000 car and her handbag containing personal documents.
City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun confirmed the incident, saying that a manhunt was underway to track down the stolen vehicle and the carjackers.
He said the woman was taken to the nearest hospital for outpatient treatment after she lodged a police report.
Jauteh urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward to assist the police in their investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
The first carjacking incident here on Monday saw an eight-year-old schoolboy continuing to sleep in his mother’s Toyota Vios car as it was driven off from the parking lot behind SJK (C) Chung Hwa Likas around 6.10 am.
The mother had left the car to purchase buns from a mobile vendor while the car’s engine was running and the doors were not locked, and the boy was asleep in the back seat.
An hour later, Darren Chiang Kai Ven, and the vehicle were found parked near a seafood restaurant in Asia City. The schoolboy was left alone in the car unharmed.
Police have not made any arrest for that case.
