Sabah CM tables RM4.622 bln budget

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government has tabled a RM4.622 billion state budget for 2014 compared to RM4.088 billion in 2013.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said when tabling the Supply Bill 2014 at the State Legislative Assembly here yesterday that the estimated expenditutre in the 2014 budget is a 75.77-fold increase over the state budget 50 years ago.

“From the 2014 supply alocation of RM4,621.5 mln, I propose a distribution of RM702.51 mln for emoluments, RM1,736.59 mln for recurrent expenditures and RM2,182.4 mln for special expenditures,” he said. Musa said the emoluments for 2014 have increased by RM39.34 mln or 5.93 per cent over the RM663.17 mln for 2013 due to the salary adjustment for state civil servants under the Sistem Saraan Malaysia implemented in 2013.

Recurrent expenditures for 2014 will increase by RM648.66 mln or 59.62 per cent from the RM1,087.93 mln in 2013 to ensure the government machinery is smooth, effective and efficient, as well as to repay the government’s mature bonds of RM568.9 mln and Federal government debt of RM171 mln, he said.

The estimated development expenditure for 2014 totals RM1,200.3 mln, with RM838.43 mln coming from the state government and RM361.87 mln from the Federal government.

Musa said in terms of sectors, the economic sector will get the biggest development expenditure allocation of RM893.15 mln, followed by the social sector (RM266.4 mln), administration (RM30.75 mln) and unexpected expenses (RM10 mln). — Bernama
