KOTA KINABALU: Former Kalabakan Wanita Umno division chief Datuk Hamisa Samat has protested against the special election to be held in Tawau today.
She claimed the special election to fill 14 vacancies in the committee violates Article 15.8 of the Umno Constitution and Rule 6.7 of the Wanita Umno regulation.
“The special election should also involve the post of Wanita permanent chairman, deputy permanent chairman, Wanita chief, vice-chief and all committee members.
“It should be conducted by an independent body, in this case Sabah Umno, and not by Kalabakan Umno,” she told a press conference here yesterday.
Hamisa said the decision to ban the 14 committee members who resigned on Oct 15 from contesting denied them the right to be heard and to defend themselves.
The directive for the election should be issued by election committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali and not Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor.
Kalabakan Umno division chief Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh yesterday said he would send a letter pressing for action against the 14 committee members.
The 14 Kalabakan Wanita Umno division committee members resigned on Oct 15 citing dissatisfaction with the election process.
In the Wanita election on Oct 12, Hamisa, the incumbent Kalabakan Wanita Umno chief, lost to her deputy Cahaya Sulaiman. — Bernama
