TAWAU: Three people were killed and two others seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry in Jalan Bombalai-Merotai yesterday.
Those killed in the crash which occurred at about 4.30pm, were identified as Hasan Batin, 60, Zaimah Kahar, 40, and one-year-old Sayyid Muhammad Ibnu Qayyim Rogiman.
It was known whether the three were related but Sayyid Muhammad was the son of the driver of the car, Rogiman Syed Aidit, who was seriously injured in the accident.
The other seriously injured was Rogiman’s wife Arnizah Kamis, 25, who was seated in the front passenger seat.
District police chief, ACP Awang Besar Dullah in a statement today said the car driven by Rogiman was on its way from Tawau town to Kalabakan when a lorry coming from the opposite direction crashed into the victim’s car while trying to overtake another vehicle.
He said the lorry driver then fled into an oil palm plantation.
Awang Besar urged eye-witnesses to come forward with information on the accident to facilitate the police investigation. — BERNAMA
