PAPAR: More than 200,000 DVD films worth about RM1.4 million were confiscated during a raid conducted by the Film Censorship and Enforcement Division of the Home Affairs Ministry here yesterday.

Its director Ahmad Hilmi Said said a team of nine enforcement officers raided a two-storey semi-detached house at Taman Suvuang here about 9.30am after a three-week surveillance prompted by a tip-off from civilians.

“Seven people, including two women, all in their 30s, found in the premises have been brought in to facilitate investigations,” he said, adding that two of the men were Malaysians while the rest were foreigners.

He said a total of 30 units of equipment used for the reproduction of the films were also seized in the raid.

“There are two categories of films comprising X-rated films and films which had not been approved by the film censorship board,” he said, adding that among films confiscated was “KL Gangster 2″.

“This movie is supposed to be released in October but we find it already being sold illegally in the market,” said Ahmad Hilmi.

“We believe this is the biggest seizure for the ministry in Sabah this year,” he added.
