KOTA KINABALU: Twenty-seven out of 34 supreme council members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have signed a written requisition for a supreme council meeting to be convened at the party headquarters at 8pm on September 6 this year, with the aim and hope of resolving the crisis that is currently beseting the party.

LDP deputy secretary general, Ho Jia Lit, said, it is provided under paragraph 14(1) of the LDP constitution that ‘the supreme council shall meet at least once in every three months or when directed by the president or on the written requisition of at least one third of the members of the supreme council’.

He said paragraph 14(b) of the party constitution provides that ‘the presence of half the number of members of the supreme council shall form a quorum for a meeting of the supreme council’.

By virtue of paragraph 10(b) of the Party Standing Orders and Rules, any meeting of the supreme council requires at least seven days’ notice.

The announcement was made in a press conference by Ho, LDP deputy president, Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin and former LDP secretary-general and Tanjong Kapor division chairman, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, here yesterday.

Present at the press conference were 27 of 34 supreme council members and 17 of 29 division chairmen.

Ho said the requisition would be addressed to the party president Datuk Liew Vui Keong and delivered to the party secretariat.

When asked if the president could dismiss or cancel the requisition for a supreme council meeting, Teo said, the requisition for a supreme council meeting was provided for under the party constitution.

“According to paragraph 14(a) of the constitution, that’s the case. There is no way anyone can depart from the provision the party constitution, for so long as there is one-third of supreme council members requesting by way of a written requisition for a supreme council meeting to be convened,” Teo explained.

Also present was LDP vice president, Datuk Pang Yuk Ming.
