KOTA KINABALU: Tee Hong Wee, the managing director of Chang Cheng Realty Sdn Bhd, heads the Youth Council of Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) for the 2013-2014 session.
Tee and his fellow Exco members received their certificates of ordinary membership and appointments of the SHAREDA Youth Council for one year effective August 1 this year in a ceremony held here recently.
Other members of the Youth Council Exco are deputy head Kelvin Thong Chee Yew, general manager of Palikota Sdn Bhd, secretary Benny Ng Sui Pei, director of Glowbest Sdn Bhd, treasurer Pouline Wong Pou Ling, head of Sales & Marketing of Riverson Corporation Sdn Bhd.
SHAREDA president Francis Goh, who was among the 50 guests who witnessed the inception ceremony, congratulated the appointed Exco members for their enthusiasm and volunteerism to serve in the Council for a year and to kick start ad hoc programmes and Green/CSR initiatives of SHAREDA with 27 founding members.
He said SHAREDA’s vision was to groom the next generation of young property developers in Sabah to be future forerunners and catalyst to transform the property development into an entity that is measurable to global trend, successfully.
This would be a good platform for young property developers and professionals to put their heads together to promote learning and knowledge sharing to promote the spirit of professionalism amongst the industry players of the property development in the perspectives and aspects of international standard practices, code of ethics, etc. for a brighter tomorrow, Francis added.
On other hand, Susan who also is the patron of SHAREDA Youth Council stressed the importance of SHAREDA as a “bread and butter” platform for the betterment of the housing industry and to resolve whatever issues and challenges faced by developers today and in the yesteryears.
She vividly recalled that 20 years ago in 1992, she was a youth when she first joined SHAREDA. Since then, she learnt and continued learning a lot during her tenure as a committee member and secretary-general for 16 years and then as a president for four years.
“You are all very young today, and one day in the future, one of you will be the SHAREDA president. So no doubt that future SHAREDA president may become younger and younger in age … just like Mr Francis Goh who is now only 50 years old and so far he is also the youngest president in the history of SHAREDA,” added Susan.
She also congratulated all newly appointed Youth Council members and looked forward to many good and new ideas to bring about betterment of the association and housing industry in Sabah.
Meanwhile, Tee in his maiden speech tanked Susan and Francis for donating RM10,000 each towards the cause of the Council.
He urged eligible and professional youth aged 40 and below employed by SHAREDA members to join as ordinary members.
The associate membership of the Council is opened to eligible professional individuals registered with professional bodies or Non-Member companies such as architects, engineers, surveyors and lawyers. Details can be obtained from SHAREDA Secretariat (088-720848).
