KOTA KINABALU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) Ops Hari Raya has identified six locations for monitoring of road conditions throughout the State.
JPJ Sabah director Mohd Shuhaili Mohd Taufek said the operation was launched on August 1 and would be conducted until August 18.
Shuhaili said the locations include Kilometre (Km) 14 Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Km 7.5 Jalan Tuaran Lama, Km 20 near Bandar Sierra Menggatal, Jalan Apas Tawau, Km 74 Jalan Lahad Datu and Km 4 Jalan Pintas Sandakan Airport.
“We will temporarily suspend operation on the first and second days of Hari Raya and resume operations thereafter. The operation aims to make road users aware of RTD’s presence in the selected locations during the festive season,” he said after inspecting an Ops Bersepadu location here yesterday.
He said Ops Bersepadu was conducted statewide and involved all RTD branches, including Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Beaufort, Sandakan, Labuan, Kudat, and Keningau.
“Our operation this time focuses on motorcycles because motorcycle-related accidents were the highest, making up 60 per cent of all cases. Our target is to reduce road accident fatalities,” he said, adding that RTD would also conduct inspection on other types of vehicles.
To date, the department has inspected 140 buses. Sixty other buses will be re-examined, Shuhaili added.
Shuhaili said Ops Bersepadu involved seven agencies and 145 personnel working hand-in-hand with RTD, including Royal Malaysian Police, City Hall, Immigration Department, National Anti-drug Agency, Puspakom, National Registration Department and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board.
