KOTA KINABALU: A cashier working at a 24-hour convenience store faced a terrifying moment when she was pointed with a knife by two men who were thought to be customers, before the robbers ran off with RM350 cash at Lintas Plaza, Luyang, near here.
The incident took place at 6.10am on Thursday when both suspects approached the payment counter of the store.
Initially, the suspects, believed to be in their 20′s, were reported to be walking around at the canned drinks section of the store before they moved to the payment counter and asked for two packs of cigarettes.
However, one of the two men rushed out of the store, pretending to have left his wallet in his car, while the other suspect waited in the premises.
After a while, the first suspect re-entered the premises and pointed a knife, believed to be 15 centimetres long, towards the cashier and demanded the victim to open the cash machine at the counter.
The second suspect then took all the cash in the machine before both of them escaped in a Perodua Kancil car parked outside the premises.
Kota Kinabalu Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra when contacted yesterday confirmed the incident.
“We are still searching for both of the suspects who are believed to be in their twenties, and in the meantime we are still in the process of further investigation on this case.
Based on early information, the vehicle used by both of the suspects is a stolen car that was previously reported missing in Jalan Tuaran Bypass.
Members of the public who possess any information regarding this incident are urged to step forward to assist in the case investigation.
The case is investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for the offences of robbery and robbery when armed, which carries the punishment of up to fourteen years of imprisonment, and also liable to a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
