TUARAN: A customer sustained a head injury when he tried to fight off three armed robbers who robbed a gold shop, here yesterday.
The incident happened when three men armed with rifles entered the Man-Man Gold Shop in Tuaran town around 8.20am.
After scooping close to RM150,000 worth of jewellery and in the midst of leaving the premises, one of the suspects attacked the victim by hitting his head with the weapon.
District police chief DSP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the 30-year-old victim had been rushed to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
“Police investigation believed the victim tried to stop the robbers but one of the suspects hit him on the head with the weapon,” he said
No gunshot was fired during the incident and police are still investigating into the case, including identifying and tracking down the suspects.
Abdul Fuad also said investigation showed the suspects were armed with two dangerous weapons.
This is the fourth robbery incident reported within this month.
On October 7, the Senheng outlet at Kepayan Point along Penampang bypass was robbed by two men armed with pistols. The suspects ran away with cash, smart phones and a tablet, all worth about RM12,000.
Two days later on October 9, two masked men armed with pistol robbed Chiu Tai Seng Supermarket near SM Kian Kok in the presence of customers and escaped with around RM6,000 in cash.
The third robbery happened on October 13 when three men armed with a machete robbed a 24-hour convenience store near the Inanam Bus Terminal and took off with RM600 in cash.
