TAWAU: The marine police here seized subsidized goods worth RM7,376 from two passenger ferries on Thursday and Saturday.
According to district police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah, in the first case, 970 kilogrammes of sugar, 390 kilogrammes of cooking oil and 21 bottles of cooking oil were seized from the KM Malindo Express while it was sailing to Nunukan, Indonesia.
In the second case, Awang disclosed that 960 kilogrammes of sugar, 180 kilogrammes of flour, 270 kilogrammes of cooking oil and a 20-kilogramme container of cooking oil were seized from the Express Ferry, which was also on the way to Nunukan.
He added that the first ferry was stopped at 4.30pm while the second was stopped at 4.45pm, after they had left the jetty.
In an unrelated case, 780 kilogrammes of frozen meat, 1,200 kilogrammes of sausages and 37 kilogrammes of beef liver were seized from the MV Indomaya Ferry at 11.50am on Sunday, Awang said, adding that the seized goods totaled RM13,552.
All the cases are being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 for bringing out subsidised and controlled goods without permits.
