KOTA KINABALU: A local man surrendered himself at the city police station after assaulting his girlfriend outside her school compound at SM Lok Yuk, Likas here yesterday.

The 6am incident was also witnessed by several secondary students when the 22-year-old boyfriend allegedly grabbed his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is a student, by the neck and dragged her into his Perodua Myvi car before driving off from the school.

The boyfriend then stopped the vehicle near Taman Likas Jaya, some 100 meters from the school, where he allegedly attacked his girlfriend by punching and slapping her on the face.

The girl however managed to escape and ran back to her school. The boyfriend then followed her and returned her schoolbag and jacket.

The boyfriend then left the school and surrendered himself at the city police station at 10am the same day.

Meanwhile, city police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said initial police investigation revealed that the incident happened after the girl ended their relationship.

“The boyfriend went to the school to meet the girl as he was not satisfied with their breakup.

“Things however went out of hand when the suspect acted violently towards the victim.

“After the incident, the suspect surrendered himself at the police station and has been detained for investigation,” said Chandra, adding that the couple have been in a relationship for a year and initially befriended through social network.

The case would be investigated under Section 362/323 of the Penal Code for abduction and voluntarily causing grievous hurt respectively.
