KOTA KINABALU: Api Api assemblywoman, Christina Liew, has called on the state Government to take serious remedial measures to resolve the problem of flash floods in many areas in the state capital.
Liew said that this is because many are affected by the flash floods that happen regularly whenever there is a heavy downpour.
Liew herself was not spared from the flash flood as Jalan Sang Kancil, where her office is located was flooded yesterday afternoon.
“The downpour this afternoon caused flash floods in many residential areas. Again, many families were affected with the water level at knee height in some areas. Even my office area at Jalan Sang Kancil was also not spared.
“Once, the flood was so bad that it swamped my office, damaged my files and documents. I hope the relevant authorities such as the Drainage and Irrigation Department can put in place preventive measures in flood prone areas, including Penampang, Lido and Damai, among others, as I understand houses in many low lying were affected every time it rains heavily over a period of time.
“What happened to our big KK development plan? Please include effective drainage system to prevent floods,” she said.
