PUTATAN: Federal Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaludin wants all youth organisations in the country to be registered with the Registrar of Youth (ROY).
Speaking to reporters during a breaking of fast event at the youth and sports complex near here on Thursday evening, Khairy said that this would help his ministry to monitor and coordinate all the youth associations.
He added that they have employed a rating system to rate all the associations registered with ROY.
“We will be able to see which of the associations are doing well and are working hard,” he said.
One of the benefits for youth associations registered with ROY is the ease of garnering funding from both the State and Federal Governments, he said.
Presently, youth associations were either registered with ROY or with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
Khairy also spoke of his meeting with state Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Titingan and youth associations in Sabah.
“We agree that the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports and the state Youth and Sports Ministry must be further strengthened. It is already good, but we need to increase more programmes and change our approach in the development of our youths,” he said.
He also said that the National Youth Day is a huge festival often conducted at Putrajaya.
“We would like to conduct activities that reach out to the youths at the grassroots level. For example, we can conduct futsal competitions starting at district, state and the main competition at Putrajaya…this will encourage grassroots participation,” he added.
