KOTA KINABALU: The Ramadan Bazaars around the city have managed to maintain cleanliness as Kota Kinabalu City Hall reported that there had yet to be any complaints pertaining to hygiene.
“To date, we have yet to receive any hygiene-related complaints at the Ramadan Bazaars around the city, particularly the food,” said Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir.
This, he said, could be attributed to the requirements outlined by City Hall when issuing business permits to stall operators.
“Food stall operators are required to go for medical screening to ensure that they are free from any illness or disease, especially cholera, before they are granted a permit to operate their stalls at the Ramadan Bazaars,” he pointed out.
He added that although there were no reports yet on hygiene violation, stall operators have to maintain the quality and hygiene of the food items that they are selling.
“They (stall operators) must also always make sure that the food they sell are fresh and not from two, three days ago,” said Abidin when met at the distribution of Maggi ‘Bubur Lambuk’ sponsored by Nestle Products Sdn Bhd at the City Hall ground here yesterday.
Abidin also advised stall operators not to mark up the prices of goods they are selling, liberally.
He reminded the public to continue practising anti-littering habits when visiting the Ramadan Bazaars.
According to Abidin, this year’s Ramadan Bazaars saw the participation of 746 stall operators in 18 locations within the Kota Kinabalu area.
Commenting on the Maggi ‘Bubur Lambuk’ distribution collaboration with Nestle, Abidin thanked the latter for its continuous generosity in organising the programme which has entered its third year.
The Maggi ‘Bubur Lambuk’ was prepared by Maggi executive chef Muluk.
A total of 1,000 containers of ‘bubur lambuk’ were distributed to City Hall staff and members of the public.
Earlier, Abidin distributed aprons and caps sponsored by CCK Fresh Mart Sdn Bhd to all the stall operators at Lintasan Deasoka Ramadan Bazaar.
Also present during the programme yesterday were Kota Kinabalu City Hall director-general Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and its deputy operation head, Joannes Solidau.
