KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has agreed to officiate at the opening ceremony of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Congress on November 16 this year.
Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) national chairman, has acknowledged LDP’s contributions to the State.
As a senior component party in Sabah BN, Najib has said that party’s contribution to Sabah was evident and indisputable.
LDP president Datuk Teo Chee Kang said that after calling on Najib at the Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday, accompanied by LDP deputy president Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin.
Teo said LDP would be holding its party congress on November 16 this year and had invited Najib to officiate at the opening ceremony at 10am.
Teo personally handed the invitation letter to Najib during the courtesy call.
He added that the party would be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
A series of programmes will be held in conjunction with the anniversary celebration, including publishing a magazine to commemorate the party’s silver jubilee.
“Our 25th anniversary dinner will be held on November 15, followed by the party congress the next day.”
On that note, Teo thanked Najib for agreeing to grace the opening ceremony of the party congress, and he believed that LDP members would be excited by the news.
He added that Najib had acknowledged LDP’s contribution to Sabah and recognized the party as a senior component party of Sabah BN.
“The Prime Minister also believes that LDP will play our role as a Chinese-based political party to regain the support of Chinese voters towards BN.”
At present, Teo said the party was recruiting new members throughout Sabah in an effort to strengthen the party and serve the people more effectively.
