KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp), organized an exposition called EXPOSuRe 2014 (Expo for Student Career, Research and Industry Linkages) at Kompleks Dewan Kuliah Pusat ke-2, for two days beginning last Tuesday.
The expo combined the UMS 20th Anniversary Exhibition, Academic Exhibition, Research and Instrumentation Exhibition and Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF).
TalentCorp and UMS hosted the SFCF to provide exposure and attract young Malaysian graduates to pursue careers in priority sectors of the National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs).
SFCF at this expo focused on tourism, agriculture, oil, gas and energy, and accounting sectors. The fair provided an opportunity for graduates to meet with CEOs and human resource representatives of the participating companies.
The event, which was supported by more than 30 leading companies combined academic, research, industry linkages and career fair, and was the first of its kind in Sabah.
According to UMS vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah in his closing ceremony speech which was read by deputy vice chancellor (Academic and International) Professor Dr Shariff Abdul Kadir S. Omang Al-Haj yesterday, students should be reminded that the role of a student at the university was vastly different from the working environment as every action and behaviour would have an impact on company performance.
Highlighting the fact that the success of a company was dependent on work excellence and ethics, Harun urged the graduates to continually strive for excellence in the workforce.
The two-day event featured career talks by prominent industry figure Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Harris Mohd Salleh, Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood (CEO of YTL Communications) and John Britto (Royal Institution Group of Companies).
Other activities included academic exhibition, research exhibition, analytical and instrumentation exhibition, career fair, speed interview, networking session, and student and industry engagement programme.
