RANAU: A 10-tonne lorry skidded and landed on its side in the middle of the Ranau-Kota Kinabalu Road, near Kota Kinabalu National Park, here yesterday.
It is learnt that the lorry driver, in his 40s, was on his way to the state capital from Ranau when he lost control of the vehicle while approaching a bend around 6am.
It is also learnt that the driver was pinned in his seat and it took a couple of minutes for members of the public to pull him out before he was taken to the district hospital.
Meanwhile, State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said the Fire and Rescue Services station in Ranau received a distress call at 6.20am and immediately rushed to the scene.
“Upon our arrival, the driver had already been taken to the hospital by a member of the public and our personnel were at the scene to monitor the situation,” he said.
