KOTA KINABALU: Candidates and teachers jumped for joy at SM ST Michael Penampang when they learnt the school has set a new record in the 2013 SPM examination. It achieved GPS of 2.55 compared to 3.12 in 2012.
A total of 148 candidates from the school sat for the 2013 SPM examination, with 27 candidates obtaining straight A’s in all subjects.
One of the students, Marxmiillian Owel Borinus, scored straight A+ in all his 10 subjects. Five other candidates, namely Carmel Petrus Chin, Dalnitha Lea Nichol, Lynette Joinin, Nurul Ain Muhammad and Pierce Gabriel Kunan scored A+ in nine subjects and an A in one more subject.
Ten students obtained 10A’s, 14 scored 9A’s, 13 achieved 8A’s and 14 obtained 7A’s, which brought the total number of candidates scored 7A’s and above to 51.
The school’s results showed improvement in 13 subjects, namely Bahasa Malaysia, History, Moral, Pendidikan Seni Visual, ICT, Geography, Science, Additional Mathematics, Physic, Chemistry, Biology, Accounts, and Commerce..
The school scored 99.66% passes last year, a dip from the previous year’s 100% due to two candidates failing to obtain a pass in History.
Starting from last year, a pass in History was made compulsory in the SPM apart from Bahasa Malaysia.
