KOTA KINABALU: The industry-driven Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme (FSTEP), managed by Institut Bank-Bank Malaysia in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia, addresses the shortage of entry-level talent in Malaysian banks and insurance companies.

The programme is aimed at Malaysian below 30 years old, having any degree with CGPA of 3.25 and above. However, graduates who are active in extra-curricular activities with a CGPA above 3.00 may also apply.

Those selected will be sponsored by a bank or insurance company, receiving a minimum monthly allowance of RM2,200, depending on their qualifications and experiences. Upon completion of training, well-performed participants will be provided permanent employment.

FSTEP head, Lee Khee Joo, said the programme had successfully produced 10 batches of graduates, totaling 1,352 participants from local and foreign universities.

“Besides providing training, over the years, we have continuously fine-tuned our training programme to enhance its quality to meet the needs of the sponsors,” Lee said in a statement.

The one-year training programme, divided into a six-month face-to-face comprehensive learning classroom experience, encompasses simulations, workshops and case studies on rotational basis.

The last leg of the programme comprises a six-month internship programme with the sponsoring financial institutions.

Batch 11 of the programme is scheduled to commence on April 2. To ensure the relevance and effectiveness of FSTEP, the programme is set to incorporate the core and technical competencies required of financial service practitioners.

The one-year training programme is industry-relevant and will prepare participants well to enter the world of finance and insurance.
