KOTA KINABALU: The State Education Department is ready to channel RM15,000 aid to assist Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gadong, Beaufort where two blocks of administration buildings were destroyed by fire on Monday.
Its director, Datuk Jame Alip, said the department had requested the federal Education Ministry to provide the assistance under the Disaster Fund and the money was expected to be given to the school soon.
He said RM10,000 from the allocation were needed for replacing equipment and teaching tools that were damaged or destroyed in the fire while the remaining RM5,000 would be used to purchase materials needed to repair the school fences.
Jame when contacted, said the department would also consider if the school requested to replace the gutted wooden structure with a new concrete building.
“At the moment, we are still waiting for the full report from the district education office and the school headmaster to be forwarded to the ministry.
“I have personally inspected the situation at the school together with several officers. We have discussed immediate measures that needed to be taken to allow the students to resume their classes,” he said.
The fire destroyed two semi-permanent buildings housing a library, sport equipment storage room and an administration office.
On the same day, another fire burnd down three blocks of building at SK Pekan Kiulu in Tamparuli.
