TUARAN: A former district chief of Tuaran who is now the advisor of the Boedon Descendants Association or Pisompuruan Sinakagon Boedon (PSB) here is making an urgent appeal to Datin Maliana Ugau, the wife of former Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Jahid Jahim, to immediately take charge to activate the association.
The advisor, OKK Imbun Orow, has made the appeal due to the association’s inactivity and the risk of it being deregistered because of failure to hold meetings and to submit the necessary reports to the Registrar of Societies. He said PSB was registered last year, had the first AGM but had not held an AGM for this year.
“We should all be grateful to the association’s founders led by Dagu bin Naun who had taken the right step in registering the association,” Orow said. “However those we have hoped to mobilize it have not done so and this has caused a lot of the members to complain and feel worried. As such, I believe the only person with enough influence and spirit to lead within the Boedon clan is Datin Maliana Ugau.”
Orow, who is now in his 80s, said that PSB aims to unite the descendants of Boedon bin Undoros who are mostly in Tuaran and to seek business opportunities and economic and educational development for them. PSB now boasts of 863 members but Orow says there are a lot more clan members who are yet to be registered because they are outside Tuaran or living abroad.
“The younger generation of the Boedon clan seems to be losing sight of the importance of family ties due to their career commitments,” Orow observed. “But we need to continue uniting and to strengthen PSB for our common progress. There are so many things to do. We need to apply for land, build our headquarters and help our members to go into businesses to emulate the Chinese who have the patience and skills in entrepreneurship.
“Datuk Jahid Jahim has shown his generosity and support to us by contributing a buffalo for the feast to celebrate and officiate the launch of the genealogy book on the descendants of Boedon last year. So we need to show our appreciation by keeping PSB active so that it continues to be productive in achieving its objectives.
“For this purpose Datin Maliana is the best person to lead us due to her energy, knowledge and experience as a leader. I appeal to her to lead us and I hope the other members will support my proposal,” Orow said. “I and the other leaders of PSB are arranging to meet Maliana to officially forward the proposal to her as soon as possible.”
