SANDAKAN: Sabah Government Employees Cooperative Society Bhd (KOPEKS) won the Best Cooperative Award at the Sabah State Corporation Fiesta held here yesterday.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Yahya Hussin handed the award to KOPEKS board member Awang Juri Ag Tahir during the event held at the Sandakan Harbour Square.
When met by the press, Awang thanked the Malaysia Cooperatives Societies Commission (SKM) for helping KOPEKS to achieve its admirable standing today.
He said winning the award was the product of the commitment, trust, belief and support given to him by other members of the board, its management and members of the KOPEKS community.
Meanwhile, Koperasi Kakitangan Sawit Kinabalu Sabah Bhd (KOSAWIT) won the Best Corporate Services award.
Also in attendance were Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Haji Zakaria Mohd Edris, Sukau assemblyman Datuk Saddi Abd Rahman, Sabah SKM director Umar Sarim Saidin and Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong.
KOPEKS is one of three corporations from Sabah that is listed in the Top 100 Corporations of Malaysia and is also one of three corporations from Sabah involved in credit loan activities with the Ar-Rahnu Exchange.
