KOTA BELUD: State Police Commissioner Datuk Wira Haji Hamza Taib said Sabah’s crime index dropped during the first ten months this year, with 4,838 cases recorded compared to 5,084 cases during the same period in 2012.
The index showed a drop of 246 cases or 4.84 per cent, he said, adding that from January to October this year the police solved 2,229 cases (46.07%) compared to 2,497 (49.11 %) during the same period in 2012, which represented a drop of 3.04 per cent.
Hamza said this at the launch of the Motorcycle Convoy Crime Awareness Day program at the district police headquarters here yesterday by State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Mohd Salleh Tun Said.
Hamza said 1,434 house break-in cases were reported during the first ten months of this year compared with 1,440 cases during the same period in 2012, a drop by 0.42 per cent.
On street crime, he said there were 753 cases between January and September 2009 cases compared to 349 cases during the same period of this year, which recorded a drop of 53.65 per cent.
“This clearly shows the good cooperation between the people and the police force in combating crime in the state,” he said.
On the programme, Hamza said it is part of the police force’s efforts in educating the public on ways to prevent crime, protect themselves and their family members and properties, apart from being conscious about the safety of their surroundings, workplace and homes.
A convoy of 74 high-powered motorcycle riders from the police force, the United Sabah Big Biker ‘s Association, Beaufort Big Biker ‘s Club, and Tawau Big Bike Owners Club and Jesselton Bikers Club took part in the programme.
The convoy of riders started their journey from Kota Kinabalu to Kota Belud, and then to Ranau, Kinabatangan, Telupid, Sandakan, Beluran and will end up in Tuaran.
