See Hua Group papers win various awards

KOTA KINABALU: See Hua Group newspapers received a number of awards at the Petronas Mayor’s Press Award 2013 on Friday night.

The Borneo Post’s trio of Lester Bingkasan, Mariah Doksil and Natasha Sim Lyn Siin were awarded the second prize in English News Reporting Category with their articles on the full coverage of 2013 Dragon Boat Race.

The Borneo Post reporter Amy Dangin won the third place with her article entitled ‘Bus Drivers Agonise Over Neglected City Terminal’ in the same category.

See Hua Group also won the first and third places in the Chinese News Reporting Category. Chung Yeh Nie of See Hua Daily News won the first place with her article ‘Ten Cars To A Parking Space’ while Jong Khiam Zhung won the third place with his article entitled ‘Kebersihan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu Tanggungjawab Bersama’.

See Hua Daily News also made a clean sweep of the top three prizes in the Chinese Feature Writing Category.

See Hua Daily New chief reporter Yong Ted Phen won the first place with his entry entitled ‘The Impacts Of Overfishing And Global Warming On The Fishing Industry’ and Chung Yeh Nie who the second and third place with her articles “Just Too Much Garbage’ and ‘Poor Attitude Towards Use Of Public Toilet’.

Utusan Borneo Kadazandusun sub-editor, Aloysius Moinin won the newly introduced Kadazandusun Feature Writing Category, with his article entitled ‘Greening Campaign Of Kota Kinabalu City’.

All categories offered RM1,000 for first prize, RM700 for second and RM500 for third as well as trophies and certificates.

The awards were presented by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional chairman Mohamed Firouz Asnan and Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

During his welcoming speech Madingkir said City Hall appreciated all the articles and news which had promoted the positive development of Kota Kinabalu.

He hope that a better relationship could be forged between City Hall and the media practitioners in the city centre to ensure the right message would be heard and read by the people.

Madingkir also thanked Petronas for its sponsorship and other corporate companies for their contribution to the biennial event in recognizing the role of the media in enhancing the image of Sabah’s capital city.
