KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman will be presenting allocations to 235 schools and non-Islamic religious bodies at Dewan Bankuasi of the State Legislative Assembly building at 3pm, on November 19.
The recipients include nine Chinese independent schools, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina [SJK(C)], Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK), Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (SRK), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK), kindergartens, mission schools, religious bodies and non-Muslim places of worship.
Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang made the announcement after chairing a meeting pertaining to the State Government’s allocation to schools and religious bodies.
Also present at the meeting were Assistant Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Michael Asang, Assistant Education Director for Chinese Schools in Sabah Tham Yun Fook, Sabah National Type Chinese School Management Committees chairman Ben Lim Kiat Kong, Sabah Chinese Primary School Working Committee chairman Datuk William Chu, political secretary to the Minister of Special Tasks Peter Chong and public relations officer to the Minister of Special Tasks Albert Kok.
Teo said the committee responsible for the State Government’s allocation to Chinese education and religious groups have held four meetings and it was decided that the allocation presentation ceremony would take place on November 19.
Teo continued to say that his ministry had informed all the recipients to arrive at the venue at 1.30pm for registration on that day.
Sabah Dong Zong, Sabah National Type Chinese School Management Committees, Sabah Chinese Primary School Working Committee, Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI), churches, Chinese temples and other non-Muslim places of worship will be invited to attend the event.
The minister in charge of education in the State Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap, Chinese members of parliament and state assemblymen are also expected to attend the ceremony.
Teo said the recipients on that day would include nine Chinese independent schools and eight conforming schools (SMJK) in Sabah.
In addition, eight SRK and SMK in the west coast, three in Kudat, nine in the interior, seven in Sandakan and six in Tawau will also be receiving allocations.
The State Government will also be giving allocations to 26 SJK(C) in the west coast, 10 in Kudat, 23 in the interior, 10 in Sandakan and 14 from Tawau.
Meanwhile, 26 kindergartens in the west coast, 19 in Kudat, 16 in the interior, 15 in Sandakan and 17 in Tawau will benefit from the funding.
Two mission schools in the West Coast, nine in Kudat and two in Tawau will also be receiving allocations.
As for non-Islamic religious bodies, 123 Chinese temples, nine Indian temples and 60 churches of all denominations will be getting allocations on November 19.
