KOTA KINABALU: The people have been called on not to speculate about the shooting and abduction of foreign tourists in Semporna this morning.
Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said sharing speculation instead of accurate facts may jeopardise the state’s tourism industry.
As such, he called on the people to leave the matter to the police to verify and investigate.
“The spreading of wild speculation including on social media sites may cause negative perception.
“Leave it to the police to investigate. The more we talk without valid facts, the more it will jeopardise the tourism industry,” he said when contacted today.
A Taiwanese citizen in his 50s was shot dead while his wife was kidnapped by a group of men at around 1am at a water resort at Pom Pom Island, Semporna.
The couple are said to have been on holiday at the island at the Tun Sakaran Marine Park since early this week.
