LAHAD DATU: The crime index for the district appear has recorded a drop following the aftermath of the intrusion incident at Kampung Tanduo near here in February.
According to Lahad Datu Police chief, Superintendent Shamsudin Mat, a six per cent drop was recorded and this could be due to the implementation of crime prevention activities in this district.
“The drop in the crime index does not mean that the police should feel comfortable and relaxed, but to ensure that efforts are ongoing to make the public will feel safe and secure,” he said.
Shamsudin, at the press conference yesterday, said that the district police have launched a special crime-prevention operation to ensure public safety. He said that during this operation, the police will conduct regular patrols and roadblocks, especially in the hot spot areas.
“We have also launched our ‘man in blue on the street strategy’ in which 22 personnel will man a roadblock, conduct patrols using motorcycle and car, with two police personnel patrolling each lane at residential areas that have been identified as crime prone areas.
“Through this strategy, we will be indirectly sending out notice to criminals and bad hats that the police are everywhere to immediately prevent incidences of crime,” he added.
Shamsudin added that the district police will continue to intensify its efforts to combat crime even though the situation is under control.
