TAWAU: The Rural Development Ministry is determined to bring development to the rural communities throughout the state, said its permanent secretary Datuk Ghulam Jelani.

“This is in terms of economy, safety measures, improvement of basic facilities, quality and harmony with an eye of getting them out of poverty,” said Ghulam in his speech which was delivered by assistant permanent secretary Abu Bakar Latif at the closing of Management and Administration Training Course for Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) and Urban Development and Security Committees (JKDB) for Kunak Constituency held at De Choice Hotel here yesterday afternoon.

Ghulam said the ministry was always focusing on the needs of the poor and striving hard to make the rural areas as productive as possible.

In this respect, he said the ministry has its direction and strategic guidelines in carrying out various poverty eradication programmes to improve the income and the living quality of the rural communities.

He believed that the guidelines would generate a competitive and collective economic level of the rural folk.

“Rural development is a heavy task and requires a high commitment from every individual. It cannot be done by an individual alone, so it needs teamwork.

“Thus, I hope the Village Security and Development as well as Urban Development Committees would be a capable leader and being respected by the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Rural Development cum Kunak Assemblyman Datuk Nilwan Kabang also urged the JKKKs and JKDBs to ensure that they look after their communities in the context of safety, development facilities and good welfare.
