TAWAU: A policeman was injured in a struggle with a 32-year-old man in front of Kedai Koperasi Felda Umas 4 here on Tuesday.
District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the sergeant was injured on the left elbow and finger besides suffering scratches on the stomach after the man, suspected to be involved in house break-in and motorcycle theft, used a kris (dagger) to stab the victim several times.
Awang Besar said the victim and three other policemen were responding to information about housebreaking and motorcycle theft at noon and they were detaining the suspect when the struggle ensued.
He said the suspect was overpowered and the dagger seized. The policemen also seized a laptop and a motorcycle from the suspect which are believed to be stolen.
Awang Besar said a 21-year-old suspect was also detained after he and two accomplices attacked two policemen when they were being apprehended about 8pm on Monday.
He said the suspect had been identified as Asmil Aswan while his two friends managed to escape.
The two policemen were on patrol duty at Mile 2 Apas Road when they saw three men carrying two safes in an oil palm plantation at Utama Road.
The three men were stopped and checked, and a struggle ensued. The suspect bit one of the policemen’s fingers in a bid to escape. His two other friends hit and kicked the policemen before fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, Awang said a government servant was among 12 people detained at a roadblock on Tuesday at Jambatan Putih and Mile 8, Apas Road after their urine tested positive for drug abuse.
He said the road blocks were mounted during crime prevention operations from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, and involved three officers and 25 police personnel.
Awang said 2,607 people, 675 vehicles and 229 motorcycles were checked and 24 summonses were issued for various offences.
