KOTA KINABALU: The leadership of Pertubuhan Perpaduan Rakyat Kebangsaan Sabah (Parti Perpaduan) thanked the Federal Government, especially the Home Ministry for approving the applications of 11 new political parties from Sabah, including Parti Perpaduan.
Its protem president, Jack Giau, said the party which is still in infancy stage, would also like to commend the efforts of the Home Ministry to stem out crimes of all kinds in the country which were on the increase lately.
“We call on the rakyat to be united as a good citizens of Malaysia. Parti Perpaduan supports the call by Home Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to reconsider re-introducing the Internal Security Act (ISA), perhaps with modifications to suit the current needs of our modernising society.
“Our party is also of the opinion that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) should be given full power to set up a police panel proposing laws to be forwarded and refined by the Attorney-General office. This is because the police force are the one that enforce the laws and receive the wrath of law transgressors.
“We also call on all parties to stop playing up racial and religious sentiments in order to unify Malaysians. In conjunction with the coming celebration of Malaysia’s golden jubilee on September 16, Parti Perpaduan also calls on the governments, NGOs and the people at large to respect the original concept of establishing the Federation of Malaysia in 1963,” he said in a statement yesterday.
