KOTA KINABALU: Suspended Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Women’s chief Nancy Lim said she is hurt by the decision of party president Datuk Liew Vui Keong to suspend her from her post.
“The issue in the Women movement is just a small problem, which can be resolved internally. There is no necessity to take this step. I have been in LDP for almost 20 years,” she said, when commenting on Liew’s announcement to suspend her on the basis of some alleged discrepancies in the movement’s accounts.
LDP Women movement treasurer, Carol Lo, said there was just a tiny misunderstanding with the movement’s accounts.
“This is our internal affair, he (Liew) said a police report needed to be lodged. I don’t know on what basis he could lodge a police report,” she asked.
Lo said the allegations were damaging to the Women movement leaders’ reputation.
“I’m disappointed with the president, I don’t trust him. (The accounts discrepancies) are a misunderstanding, we have resolved it. But he (Liew) still publicized it in the papers. Is he trying to cause disunity?” Lo asked.
Meanwhile, LDP deputy president, Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin, said Liew has gone overboard with the suspension of Lim, saying that the Women movement chief was a contested post, not appointed, and that the president did not have the power to suspend Lim.
Chin, who is LDP disciplinary committee chairman, said the problem Liew raised could be resolved between the Women movement and the party leadership.
“If you want to suspend any member, you have to go through the supreme council and pass to the disciplinary committee, of which I’m the chairman, to decide or propose to the supreme council to suspend or sack the member. I think the president is abusing his power,” Chin contended.
Chin also clarified that former party secretary general Datuk Teo Chee Kang did not to harbor Lim.
“If what he (Liew) said is true, the Women movement would not be here (at the press conference) today.”
