KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah College students are encouraged to approach their juniors today and provide them the support and guidance to excel in their education.

The advice came from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who also spent his secondary years in the school, adding that apart from academic, the former students should also share the leadership skills in order to mould the younger generation to be the nation’s future leaders.

Speaking during the presentation of appointment letters to the Old Boys of Sabah College Association (OSCA) Exco members last night, he said Sabah College remains close to his heart.

“So I try my best to attend these OSCA events. I think it is important to maintain close ties with one’s former school mates and remember that your school days is a part of the building blocks of one’s life.

“These days our lives are so hectic and time has become such a precious commodity that it becomes very easy to lose track of the past and the people we met and befriended.

“Hence, I applaud OSCA on their effort in organising these types of events and other activities with the objective of keeping the alumni spirit alive. I hope you will continue to engage our alumni members in events such as this one and other activities, including worthwhile causes,” said Musa, who is also OSCA patron.

He also acknowledged the presence of Mrs G Clark, the former teacher and wife of the late principal G. Clark, who is the first principal of Sabah College.

“Principal Clark was an outstanding educator who not only facilitated a good learning environment but also instilled discipline among the students. I also wish to accord my special thanks to Mrs Clark for her dedication, patience and guidance during her teaching years at Sabah College.

“The teaching profession is often underrated and teachers are often taken for granted. So I call for everyone to appreciate all teachers as a mark of our respect to this noble profession,” he said.

Musa also recalled having good times and memories with his former classmates and schoolmates at Sabah College, adding that all those have thought them to be the person they are today.

“The conducive environment for both teachers and students are among the contributors to the school’s success. Since it was set up in 1956, Sabah College has produced great leaders and professionals,” he said.
