KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) whole-heartedly supports the leadership of Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah as the president of Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC).

KKCCCI president Michael Lui Yen Sang said the chamber’s 36th management and supervisory committees have always been supportive of SUCCC and intended to continue their close working relationship.

Since he was elected to preside KKCCCI in November last year, Lui said he has been busy with the chamber’s affairs and community welfare activities.

However, the management committee has appointed KKCCCI deputy president Dr Ling Hie Sing to represent KKCCCI in SUCCC affairs.

“KKCCCI is confident of Gan’s leadership and we will fully support plans that contribute to the well-being of our members, including the Wisma SUCCC joint venture project,” Lui said when paying a courtesy call on Gan here yesterday.

During the meeting, Lui urged Gan to continue to strive for the rightful share of the two joint ventures on agriculture and reforestation between SUCCC, Sabah Bumiputra Chamber of Commerce (SBCC) and Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

On another matter, Lui reported that SJK(C) Che Hwa would be ready for admission on January 6 next year, while the construction was expected to complete in September this year.

The construction of the first phase of SJK(C) Che Hwa costs around RM11 million, he said, and added that the contractors were now building the road and basic infrastructure.

Lui also appealed to fellow SUCCC members to render KKCCCI with financial support to ensure the completion of the school as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Gan said SUCCC and KKCCCI have always been a family and thanked Lui for his support on his leadership.

Gan commended Lui for having the courage to contest for KKCCCI presidency last year.

“This shows that you all (the incumbent management and supervisory committees) have the courage, wisdom and a sense of responsibility.”

Gan said KKCCCI was the largest Chinese chamber in Sabah that boasts a pool of talents and financial resources,” he said, adding that KKCCCI also managed eight schools.

He said KKCCCI should be the role model for Chinese chambers in the State, and urged the chamber to participate in SUCCC activities.

Gan further said that SUCCC would be hosting the The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) annual general meeting next year which was expected to involve 1,000 participants, as well as organising the fourth Borneo International Trade Fair (BITF) 2013.

He hoped Lui would do well in his endeavor as KKCCCI president, saying that the management and supervisory committee should execute what they deemed right because it was impossible to get 100 per cent approval.

“A person’s life is like a land title, you have 30 years, 60 years or 90 years. It will expire someday.

“So as long as we are living, we should do things that benefit the community,” he said.
