KOTA KINABALU: Police are still looking for a foreign man whom they believe could assist them in the investigation into the murder of a 40-year-old man, who was found with a severe neck injury after being slashed with a machete, at a squatter house at Mile 10, Tuaran Bypass here on Sunday.

The man, identified only as Azmi, in his 20s, is wanted by the police to assist in their investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the man, who is the son-in-law of the victim, to immediately contact ASP Rosli Ariff at 013-886 0124 or the police hotline at 088-242 111.

The body of Jani Aminul, also a foreigner, was found by his wife lying on a mattress in a pool of blood with a slash wound on the back of his neck around 12.30 on August 12.

It was learnt that during the incident, the victim was in the house with his 14-year-old stepdaughter, her 20-year-old husband and the couple’s two-week-old child.

Initial police investigation pointed to the possibility that the son-in-law could have attacked the victim with a machete after learning that the latter had sexually harassed his stepdaughter, who is also the suspect’s wife.

Police also believed that the suspect and his family had fled the scene on a motorcycle, which was found abandoned in Telipok around 2.50pm on the same day.
