KOTA KINABALU: Four local men pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday to a joint charge of robbing two female restaurant workers while armed with a machete.
Haris Rafie, 46, Hassan Miong, 33, Sarizal Jaimna, 27, and Armudi Arsalin, 33, allegedly robbed Haini @ Hamini Habiu, 46, and Lucia Kumbangang, 20, of RM1,000 in cash and valuables.
They allegedly committed the offence at Country Heights Café in Kota Belud on July 9 this year around 12pm.
The charge under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy High Court registrar Hafizi Abdul Halim, who sat as Sessions Court Judge, fixed Sept 19 for case management and granted the four accused RM5,000 bail with two local sureties each.
Meanwhile, Hassan and Armudi face a separate joint charge of robbing Mak Kui Lim @ Mak Oui Lim, 66, of about RM70,000 worth of electronic items, other valuables and cash.
Among the valuables were two Rolex watches, four mobile phones, an iPad, an Apple brand laptop, one Prada purse and a Louis Vuitton handbag.
The duo allegedly committed the robbery with a machete and a knife at a house in Luyang on June 14 this year.
Halim fixed Sept 23 this year for case management, and released the accused on RM5,000 bail with two local sureties each after they pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Deputy public prosecutor Chow Siang Kong prosecuted both cases.
In yet another case, Haris was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with possessing a stolen Proton Saga car, registered under the name of one Fredie Sua @ Freddy Garald Suah and with plate number SAB 1952, at Kampung Payas-Payas, Kota Belud, on July 9 this year.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries up to five years’ jail and a fine on conviction.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus fixed Sept 26 for Haris’ trial and released him on RM2,500 bail with two local sureties.
