KOTA KINABALU: A 40-year-old foreign man was found dead with severe neck injury at a squatter’s house at Mile 10, Tuaran Bypass here early yesterday morning.

The body of the victim, Jani Aminul, was found by the his wife lying on a mattress in a pool of blood with a slash wound on the back of his neck, believed to be caused by a machete, around 12.30am yesterday.

It was learnt that during the incident, the victim was in the house with his 14-year-old stepdaughter, together with her 20-year-old husband and their two-week-old child.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra said police investigation showed the victim’s wife had gone to a neighbor’s house around 10pm on Sunday.

“Around 12.30am, the wife returned home and found the house in the dark with all the lights switched off but with the television still on.

“As the wife entered the house, she found her husband lying on the mattress in a pool of blood.

“The wife immediately lodged a police report at the nearest police station,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

According to Chandra, the victim’s stepdaughter, son-in-law and grandchild were not in the house when the body was found.

He also said initial police investigation implied that the son-in-law attacked the victim with a machete after learning that the victim had sexually harassed his wife.

“Police investigation also showed that the suspect and his family had been staying in the victim’s house for several months.

“The police also believe that the suspect and his family had fled the scene on a motorcycle,” he said, adding that a team of policemen found the suspect’s abandoned motorcycle in Telipok around 2.50pm the same day.

The victim’s body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The police are currently looking for the victim’s son-in-law, identified only as Azmi, in his 20s, who the police believe could help in the investigation.

“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this man is to immediately contact ASP Rosli Ariff at 013-886 0124 or the police hotline at 088-242 111,” Chandra said.
