KOTA KINABALU: Media practitioners were urged to practise constructive reporting and assist the government in promoting economic developments that will benefit the people.
Sabah Media Association (SMA) honorary life advisor Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen stressed the importance for media practitioners in communicating the people’s voice in a responsible manner, especially when advancement in information technology has led to rapid dissemination of information.
Wong was officiating at Sabah Media Singing Competition organized by SMA here on Sunday to raise funds for the association’s welfare committee and Bukit Harapan.
“SMA’s care for the less fortunate reflects its sense of responsibility towards the society, and we should be fully supportive of its charitable act,” she said.
SMA held its first installation ceremony of its committee on February 20 this year.
At present, the association has over 100 members from the print media, electronic press, broadcast and advertising industry.
Wong commended SMA president Jonathan Wong Cheng Choon and deputy president Yen Thow Loong on their leadership and for successfully organizing the singing competition.
She believed that SMA would expand into a strong organization in time.
On the singing competition, Wong said the event would enhance the level of singing as well as uncover talents among members.
Prominent businessman Datuk James Hwong also donated RM10,000 to Bukit Harapan at the event.
