KOTA KINABALU: Road users are advised to exercise care when driving back from their respective hometowns to avoid any unwanted incidents.
Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said that statistics have shown that families are more prone to travel back together after spending time celebrating the Hari Raya in their hometowns.
“They usually head home separately for the celebration but would travel back to the cities or place where they now reside together. As today is the last day before Malaysians travel back from their hometowns, I would like to advise them to be careful when on the road.
“We expect the roads and highways to be busy as traffic will be heavy. I would like to remind the public not to change the merry making and festive mood to one that is somber and filled with tears when there are some who do not make it home because of a road accident,” he said.
The Kota Belud member of parliament said this when met at his Hari Raya open house, which was held at his residence in Taman Kingfisher Sulaman here.
“I have been informed by the Fire and Rescue Services Department that they are on standby to assist if there are any emergencies or accidents along the main highways throughout the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked if the proposed Transit Housing Project for single Malaysians would be extended to Sabah, Abdul Rahman said all policies implemented by the government would be for the whole country. He said that at the moment priority is given to newlyweds.
“Even though there are requests for single Malaysians to be given the opportunity to own these PPR houses, it will depend on the supply and need. Currently, the supply is at a critical level (and) we need to build more PPR in Sabah and also throughout the country,” he said.
