TAWAU: A 43-year-old fisherman was killed after a jongkong (boat) rammed his boat as he was on his way home from fishing on Thursday at Pasir Putih river mouth area.
District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the victim, Idris bin Said Abu Bakar, had gone out to fish at 11am with a friend who was in another boat.
At about 7pm as both boats were returning home, a jongkong coming out from the river mouth hit the victim’s boat causing him to be thrown into the sea and the boat capsized.
The victim was saved by his friend with the help of villagers and sent him to the Tawau Hospital. While receiving treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.
A report was lodged by his friend Imran bin Rumbai and the case is being investigated under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code.
The police are seeking witnesses to help with their investigation into the case.
This was the second fatal accident at sea after another fisherman, Mohamed Edris bin Bilate, was drowned after his pump-boat was hit by a speedboat suspected to be smuggling cigarettes at Mile 4, Apas sea on August 8.
Meanwhile, Awang said a motorcyclist was killed in a road accident on Friday at Balung River Road.
In the 9.30am incident, he said the victim Hatta bin Ali, 50, was heading towards Balung and while going through a corner, collided with a motorcycle that had strayed into the victim’s path.
The victim died due to serious head injury while the other motorcyclist, Indonesian Rahman bin Udin, 17, was seriously injured on the head and his pillion rider Lajju bin Russa, 17, succumbed to serious head injury.
