PENAMPANG: Moyog assemblyman Terrence Siambun has urged the Works Ministry and the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite the repair of the eroded hill slope at Kampung Timpoluon along the Penampang-Tambunan road here.
According to Terrence, no permanent measures have been taken to repair the slope in the affected area since the landslide on May 31.
“Of course, the road is now passable but the slope has yet to be remedied. At the moment it is only covered with an overlay of tarpaulin and I fear the worse should the soil start to slip as the safety of the 60 over number of people residing there will be threatened,” he said.
Terrence added that the current rainy spell is not helping the situation as it could contribute to another landslide.
“Not only are the villagers at risk, it is also dangerous for road users as the road is not stable. PWD has sealed the cracks along the road but that part is now sinking. We want a permanent, not temporary remedial measures,” he stressed.
Terrence claimed that repair works were carried out after Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Shirlin visited the affected area but nothing much has been done since.
From May 31 till now, there has been no improvement to the area, he lamented.
Meanwhile, state Public Works Department director Datuk John Anthony, when contacted for comment, said that the road is now passable to traffic.
“We have done the temporary remedial measures. For a permanent one, we are now waiting for the road design and approval of allocation. Once the funding is received, we will be starting work,” he said.
