PENAMPANG: There should be no contest for the national Umno Youth chief post which is currently held by Khairy Jamaluddin.
According to Umno Kota Kinabalu Youth chief Bahrul Rahza Chuprat, Khairy is the best person for the job as the latter has been long fighting for Umno and its objectives.
“We, the Umno Kota Kinabalu Youth movement, have declared that the post must not be contested and we want Khairy to be retained as the national Umno Youth chief as he has a proven track record.
“I am in constant communication with Khairy and he told me that so far, there is no contest for the Umno Youth chief post. There may be contest for the vice chief post. In fact Sabah may be sending someone to contest for that post,” Bahrul told reporters at his Hari Raya open house here yesterday.
Bahrul added that he had been advised by Khairy to contest for the national Umno Youth deputy permanent chairman post in the coming party election this October.
“I am offering myself for the post of deputy permanent chairman,” he said, adding that he is no longer qualified to hold any posts in Umno Youth due to age factor.
When asked to comment on Sabah Umno leaders’ support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman to contest for a Umno vice president post, Bahrul said that the latter had yet to announce if he is going to contest.
“Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa has not said anything about wanting to contest for the vice president post. So until he confirms it, all that is just talk,” he said adding that Musa is comfortable with the current situation, as Chief Minister and Supreme Council member which is accorded automatically to a Chief Minister.
“I don’t think he will contest as there is already a representative from Sabah. Of course if he does decide to contest, we will support him fully as Umno Kota Kinabalu Youth will go anywhere he (Musa) goes. But I feel that he will not contest,” Bahrul said.
Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is one of the Umno vice presidents and he has announced that he is defending the post.
