PAPAR: A truck loaded with an ISO container containing sulphuric acid skidded and landed on its side while travelling along the old Papar Road, near Kampung Kawang, early yesterday morning, causing spillage of sulphuric acid on the road surface
The incident reportedly happened at around 1 am when the truck driver, in his 40s, was transporting the chemical stored in an ISO container from Kota Kinabalu to Papar.
The driver reportedly lost control of the truck, which then skidded off the road and landed on on its side causing spillage of the sulphuric acid from the ISO container.
Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer, Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin, said the Papar Fire and Rescue station responded immediately to a 1.38 am distress call and was able to control the situation upon arrival at the site.
“About 12 personnel were immediately deployed to the scene and we managed to control the situation a few hours later,” he said, adding that no untoward incident was reported.
