KOTA KINABALU: Police here believe that a shotgun was used in the shooting of a Chinese businessman in front of Aminah Curry House in Beverly Hills.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib has reiterated that there were more than one suspect involved in this case and had used a small white coloured vehicle, very likely a Perodua Viva.

“The close range shot hit the victim’s right ribs and he was pronounced dead at 12.15am at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH),” he said during a press conference at the Sabah contingent police headquarters here yesterday.

The victim, Tiong Choon Kwong, 44, who hailed from Kuching, Sarawak, leaves behind his family, including his son and daughter who reside in Kuching.

The victim was reportedly shot while he was talking on the phone and walking towards the parking lot at around 10.30pm yesterday. He died from the gunshot wound at the hospital.

The police have also disclosed that Tiong was a businessman and was operating several resorts on Dinawan Island, Semporna.

Hamza said the police were investigating the motive of the attack and had not excluded the possibility that the shooting could be due to business rivalry or personal revenge.

He added that the police were now tracking the suspects while at the same time taking statements from eyewitnesses who were at the restaurant when the incident took place.

Hamza said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
