KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said consumers using between 0 and 20 cubic meters of water per month are charged between 30 and 60 sen per cubic meter under the new tariff in Sabah effective Jan 1, 2015.
Pairin, who is also the Sabah Minister of Infrastructural Development, said domestic consumers using between zero and 10 cubic meters per month would be charged up to 30 sen per cubic meter compared with 90 sen currently.
For consumers using between 11 and 20 cubic meters per month, the rate would be 60 sen per cubic meter compared with 90 sen under the present tariff, which was still cheaper compared to the water tariff in several states in the country.
“So, this shows that when we save and do not waste, we need not pay a high tariff and this encourages us to save water.
The use of up to 20 cubic meters per month at the rate of 60 sen per cubic meter is cheap compared to 90 sen currently,” he told reporters, here today. — Bernama
Yesterday, when winding up the debate on the Sabah state budget 2015 for his ministry, Pairin had said the restructuring of the water tariff, among other things, aimed at categorising water consumers who used water wisely. — Bernama
