TENOM: A total of 4,000 people are needed for a mass coffee drinking event in order to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records.
The record attempt is in conjunction with the Coffee Festival which will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman on November 14.
District officer Madiyem Layapan said this would be the first time the festival is held in this area to promote Tenom to local and foreign visitors.
“As residents in this area, we should be proud that there is such a festival which indirectly enhances our socio-economy income,” he said here yesterday.
He said the coffee festival from November 12 to 14 would also feature a variety of events, including aerobics in the morning of November 12, while in the evening around 7pm, visitors will be entertained by a song-writing competition organised by Radio Malaysia Keningaufm, which will be officiated by Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh.
“On the night of November 13, visitors will be entertained at the RTM Sabahvfm Concert featuring local artists such as Ronnie Bahan, Wiwie Daunah. Prince Of Pop, Dino, Janrywine, Sharin Amud Shapri, Francis Landong, Dayang Norani and others. The event will be officiated by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun,” he said.
Apart from that, he said a coffee pageant, exhibition by government agencies and private sector will also be held during the three-day festival.
Madiyem invites the people to come together to enliven the inaugural celebration of the coffee festival in the district.
