TAMPARULI: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor on Sunday flagged off a Bicycle Jamboree at the Tamparuli Advent Primary School (SRAT) field.
More than 300 cyclists from all over Sabah took part in the charity ride held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the school which was started in 1939 by the Sabah Adventist Mission.
Initially known as the Sabah Training School (STS), it was later renamed Sabah Training Primary School (STPS) following the formation of Malaysia.
The founding of STS also led to the birth of Tamparuli’s first secondary school which was later known as Sabah Adventist Secondary School (SASS). Among its former students is current Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
Among those present at the flagging-off were Sabah SDA Mission president Pastor Konis Gabu; organising chairman Nasco Gabu; SRAT headmaster Zorab Jipin and School Management Board chairman Suhaibun Gisin.
Meanwhile, the top five winners of the 24km Cyclying Jamboree were Jr Stanley, Johnie Ngongoloy, Md Suhaizan, Dan Darley and Raimie Ali.
Also present were Hajiji’s political secretary Kassim Razali, Event Advisor Janih Bangud and deputy chairman Haris Mintu.
