KOTA KINABALU: The strongest man competition is expected to be one of the main attraction when it makes its debut at the Pesta Tamu Gadang to be held in conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) 20th anniversary on November 22.
Tournament coordinator Roger Frederick said entries from Sarawak and Brunei have only made the event, named UMS Tamu Gadang Strongestman Challenge, even prestigious.
“Registration will be opened until before competition starts but we hope for interested participants to confirm early.
“Just for confirmation we will still take entries during registration between 8am to 9am on November 22 at the tournament venue at Padang Kawat UMS,” he said here yesterday.
While thanking UMS for giving the chance to have the extreme event at the Pesta Tamu Gadang, Roger hoped that the State strongestman athletes would support the event by taking part.
According to him, it will be a one-day competition featuring Truck Pull (10,000kg), Tire Flip (420kg), Yolk Walk (240kg), Atlas Stone (from 100kg – 150kg).
Entry fee is RM150, inclusive of the tournament official t-shirt.
Prizes will be offered up to the eighth placing where the chamnpions will take home RM2,000 followed by RM1,500, RM1,000, RM700, RM500, RM400, RM300 and RM200.

The Challenge is one of the sports to take place during the Pesta Tamu Gadang, which will be held until November 23.
Others are sepak takraw, beach volleyball, dart and run and the competitions which is open to the public will take place at the UMS Sports Complex. Closing date for entry is on November 20.
