KOTA KINABALU: Two glass windows of a boarding house were shattered, believed by air-gun, at the Health Sciences College in Bukit Padang, here on Sunday.

The incident was found out by one of the hostel wardens when he heard a loud noise from one of the boarding blocks between 2pm and 3pm.

Upon inspection, the warden found two small holes on the glass windows and broken glass scattered on the floor.

A police report was lodged the following day at the Luyang police station.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra yesterday confirmed the incident and said police were still investigating the case.

He said initial police investigation believed the holes were caused by ball bearings that were fired from an air-gun.

“We believe the incident was caused by irresponsible youths from nearby villages.

“We urge the public not to panic as we believe the incident is of personal matter by irresponsible people,” he said.

Chandra added a team of police had been set up to identify and track down the suspects and he urged anyone with information to come forward to assist police in their investigation.

He also said that no untoward incident was reported and the case would be investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.

In January this year, the state capital was hit by a ‘shooting spree’ when more than 20 establishments, including hotels and banks, were targeted.

It was reported that at least six people in six cars used air-guns to fire ball bearings at these establishments, causing fear among the public.
